Autonomous Flying Artists:

This gallery installation would utilize Vijay Kumar’s “Autonomous Agile Arial Robots.” As the name suggests these robots are completely autonomous and are able to react to moving surroundings with incredible reaction time. Their success is due to an algorithm that the robots calculate 100 times a second in order to glide through obstacles with haste and ease.

Visitors to the gallery would be able to enter a large room with the robots. Although they would be moving quickly trough the space, the visitors would be able to walk freely without having to worry about being hit since the robots would avoid collision. In addition to the people as objects, there would also be an array of props such as hoops and panels in order to further interact with the robots’ flight patterns.

Each robot would be equipped with a GPS in order to track their flight. Then, with the help of a variation of Paint with Your Feet designed by YesYesNo, the paths of the robots would be turned into works of art and projected onto the walls.

The gallery would consist of one large room with projected images on the walls, Each projector would correspond to one of the robots flying around. The projections would not be animated, but they would change every so often in order to show changes in the gallery space.

Imaginarium of a 1,000 creatures

This instillation is designed to make people feel imaginary creatures are real. It uses cameras, magnets, motion tracking, haptic technology, and special graphics to enable people to interact with virtual creatures through real world objects.

The room is filled with over 30 small boxes that appear to be moving all on their own. However Once you put the glasses on, you see the little creatures pushing them around.

How the interaction takes place is through the real world objects. If you were to push the box, you can feel the force of the imaginary creatures. (haptic technology)

Overview: Creating a social gallery environment were the audience cannot speak.

Concepts: interaction, relational aesthetics, social behavior, communication awareness.

Technology: Speech Jammer using Delayed Auditory Feedback.

Summary: I want to create a room in the same area were the walls are lined with speech jammer devices that forces whomever enters the room to become silent. These devices do not literally create silence but instead stops speech by listening in with a directional microphone and playing the sound back with a 0.2 second delay. This creates an environment in which one is simply unable to speak. The technical term for this is delayed auditory feedback. When people talk we also rely on hearing our own voices in order to properly speak. By hearing a 0.2 second delay of our own voices our brain cannot register the sound we are hearing which in turn disrupts our speech. The only way to stop this discomfort is to stop speaking. This phenomena allows the speech jammer to stop people from talking. The room installation will have its walls lined with directional speakers and microphones pointed toward the center of the room interrupting anyone whom enters the space. This installation will make people more aware of sound and sound pollution in the area they are in. It will also make them aware of the sound they themselves are creating in a space.

The Haptic Room

A small circular room incased in a large, advanced electrostatic haptic electronics array. The user dons a suit that covers the body, which allows for haptic feedback emulating texture, and a helmet with a flexible 3D display that allows for visual emulation of an environment.

These elements, when combined, produce an advanced virtual reality experience, transporting the user to any space thatʼs programmable and renderable. Forests, cities, abstract planes, and more.

The project consists of a space where the technology of auto stereoscopic monitors would display 3D dimensional objects in all four walls of the room and tiled panels on the floor as well. These panels will allow the viewers to interact with the piece and create the illusion to the viewers as if they were walking through the 3D dimensional objects. As a continuation of the piece and simulation I have thought of including a panel that is shaped as a urinal in the restroom as well allowing the participant to not physically have a urinal but to be actually looking at a panel.

Flying Visualizer:

Using quadrotor and arduino technology, I wish to create flying robots that light up to audio and create swarm effects when in conjunction with eachother.
