Give a title, and 1 sentence description of your final project. Add a picture that represents the project, and then link a PowerPoint of your final project.

Magic Well

Overview
The installation I’m proposing takes the form of a well in the middle of a gallery room. The participant look the well and sees they’re reflection clearly. As the participant leans in more, their image becomes less clear as another unknown person’s reflection is layered with their own. By leaning in further, their image completely dissolves, and only the image of that unknown person stares back at them.

Technologies Applied
1. One-way mirror
2. Liquidized crystal panel
3. Motion detector
4. Camera
5. Projector and lights

Concept
This installation plays with the participant’s expectations by obscuring their perception of reality. Overall, this project twists what you know to be true and naturally occurring with the interception of technology.

Final Project -- Disappearing Act
Overview
To make the technology of Carbon Nanotubes in to art, I would first start off by having a gallery space in which all the walls were like floor to ceiling aquariums (minus the fish).Since this technology works best in water, this would be the best choice to show this in. In these “aquariums” I would have about 2-4 full length mirrors spread out along the wall. However, all the mirrors will be equipped with the sheets of carbon nanotubes.
Therefore, these mirrors are able to “disappear” at any moment.

Technologies Applied
1. Sheets of Carbon Nanotubes

Concept
This project would leave the viewer wondering how this was happening. This would then leave the viewer with a sense of wonder and giving them something “magical” to experience

Laser cloud.jpg
Laser producing cloud

3D motion capture
Expand the Vision : Flow like the rain

Description/ artistic concept

The project will be an interactive installation in a gallery space about the size of the Turbine Hall at the Tate Modern in London. The room will be flooded and there will be some island structures constructed and connected by bridges and accessed from all the gallery doors. The visitors will be given a rain coat at the entrance, this coat has 3D motion capture reflectors inside that will activate a rain producing laser as people move around. The islands have a established rain intensity map , so when people walk in a certain area a cloud will form above them and it will start to rain. Some areas will only activate the rain if people jump, walk very slow, run, stand. The rain will be watering the plants on the islands.

Technology
Laser that produces rain
Laser pulses strip electrons from atoms in the air and promote formation of hydroxyl radicals. Those in turn make sulfur and nitrogen dioxides into particles which can form the basis for water droplets -- not unlike how current cloud seeding methods use silver iodide crystals as the "seeds" for water droplets.

3D motion capture
Markers coated with a retroreflective material are attached to a suit, the camera can asses their position.
Time-modulated active markers can capture the movement in real time, assessing the exact position and motion of the person. For the scope of the installation time-modulated markers will be used.

Inspiration

Diller and Scrofidio : Blur Building

They built a building on a lake connected by a bridge to land , where water is pumped from the lake , filtered and shot with a very high pressure nozzle, producing a smoke/cloud environment above the building platform. The particles are so small that they often remain suspended in the air.

Transsolar and Tetsuo Kondo : Cloudscapes

They build a bridge/staircase that would take people a couple of meters high in the gallery air where they would be able to experience the formation of clouds.A layer of artificial clouds is produced by warm, humid air coming from openings in the walls .On the ground level, the air is cool and dry.Half way up the ramps among the clouds, the air is warm and humid.Above the cloud layer, the air is hot but dry.

Expand the Vision:
Lights of Bacteria
Overview:
My project will take place in a small dark gallery space. There will be a dj playing the songs created from sounds of bacteria. As the music plays, aerial 3D systems will line the floor of the gallery space. The music will be synchronized with the lights. So, certain bacterial noises will correspond with different colored 3D images. As those sounds are played their corresponding 3D image will reflect up from the floor.

Technologies:
- Aerial 3D System
Laser system which creates three-dimensional objects in mid-air
- Nano-Ear
Capable of detecting sounds six orders of magnitude below threshold of human hearing (bacterial level).
- Music Visualizer
synchronize images with music.

Concept:
This project creates an immersive space by creating music from bacterial sounds and coordinating the music with 3D projections. Bacterial sounds will be represented visually.

Title: Monitor Attraction
My final project is on epidermal electronics which monitor human vital signs, then it creates the actual art work through a seismographic machine that has a single needle point for each audience member participating in the art work. Art piece is suppose to help show the changes that occur in within the human body when determining attraction levels to other human beings as well as to art works.

Glowing---fluorescence installation with physiological sensors

Abstract

The project will visualize the existence of bacteria on human skin with fluorescence technology. The bacteria will glow in different colors. With the help of wireless physiological sensors, the glowing rate and luminance will be controlled. When touching certain glowing area of the device, information about certain bacteria will be shown on the screen.

Key words

Synthetic gene oscillator
Wearable wireless physiological sensor
Fluorescence highlighting installation

Technology applied

1,Synthetic gene oscillator
A cell, such as a bacteria, oscillates in certain rate. A fast and tunable oscillator was created in 2008.
The oscillator consists of a circuit which can activate the fluorescent protein inside the cell. This fluorescent protein can activate the circuits in its surroundings. As a result, millions bacteria will glow together in certain rate.

2,Wearable wireless physiological sensor
The device can read the skin temperature, conductance and blood oxygen level of the individual wearing the device. It can then connect directly to a computer, where it outputs the results of the data gathered from the subject.

Device

A transparent device consists of circuits. They will accelerate the generation of the fluorescent protein inside the bacteria. The physiological sensors on the device can adjust the skin temperature of the viewers. The glowing rate and luminance will be controlled. The wireless device could be stuck to people’s arms and legs.

Exhibition

The project will be presented in science museum. In the dimmed exhibition space there will be five large, round screens. The image of viewers will be projected on the left side of the screen. When touch the glowing area, information about certain bacteria will be shown on the right side. When press the buttons controlling the skin temperature , viewers can observe the changes of glowing rate and luminance.

The Vortex Room

This instillation will harness the properties of the Vortex Gun, which shoot elecrtically charged rings of gas, to manipulate smoke particles in such a way as to create a "spectacular" aesthetic visual.

The gas rings become ionized causing the rings that are emitted to have a substantial amount of both positive ions and negative electrons. As the ring comes in contact with the smoke particles it transfers its charge of negative electrons there by causing the smoke to be forced to surrounding objects.

The Emotional Room
My project of The Emotional Room is a combination of detection of human emotion with music and pattern projected walls based on the audience’s emotion. With this kind of project, the audience experiences a private room that combines visual and audio performance that is created specially and personally only for him/her. Below is an image showing what the room will look like as the system works.
