Alex Givens - Intro / Image Correction Techniques

Post by givens » Tue Apr 10, 2012 1:34 am

NOTE: The forum file system does not permit .NEF files for upload, so the 'before' photo can be downloaded at this link: http://cl.ly/2Y3i1i3U431B3G2t0i17

'Before' Image Size: 11.1 MB
'After' Image Size: 745 KB

- Upon importing the .NEF image into Photoshop, image was given a quick contrast boost
- Pushed the high range image levels towards the center of the spectrum, and applied only minimal variation to the image color curve
- Image was rotated and zoomed to hold proportions and to place the butterfly wings in a vertically symmetrical alignment
- Warm colors were boosted in the midrange and green was boosted in the highlights
- Slight saturation bump again, no brightness alteration
- Image was resized to 800 x 533 pixels and given a resolution of 72 ppi for web upload
- Image was saved in the PNG file format

I altered the Input, Output levels to a higher level, altered the curves
Slight color balance adjustment
brightness and contrast adjustment
hue and saturation adjustment
reduced the file size to 72 dpi

I tried to enhance and bring into view all the hidden shadows and colors within this image
